Steel buildings come in two styles, straight wall metal buildings and arch metal buildings. Straight wall metal buildings are most often used for office type space as they can be attractively faced with other materials such as brick and easily "built out" in traditional styles spaces.

Arch type metal buildings are often used for storage space, especially in agriculture, as they can enclose a large amount of space in a very cost efficient manner.

Steel Building Construction

One term often seen with metal buildings is "clearspan". Clearspan metal buildings are those that do not require any internal supports. They instead use large I-beams or steel arches which are supported only on the ends.

The Metal Building Contractors & Erectors Association (MBCEA) mission is to support the proffessional advancement of metal building contractors, erectors and the industry. To advance these goals the MBCEA has formed the Metal Buildings Institute to offer educational opportunities to industry proffessionals. Through the MBI one can order a complete set of Quality and Craftmanship training videos. There is also a online testing component which offers oppurtunity for certification.
